He *did* not need to. Now he's shown you it's taxing on his body to wait that long to pee.

We used to do this when he was little, but for several months now he has done fine being occasionnally crated without a pee. Understand that this is a large breed dog, not a small dog.

OP— I have a Pug on this schedule. Works wonderfully. He gets a quick out maybe around 4 or so but if it is cold or raining he won’t go out and hold it for hours.

I also have a chocolate lab (large breed). Needs 2xs as many out times as Pug. Big and dumb. Sweetest thing ever though.

Size doesn’t matter. Take your dog out more.

I have large breed dogs and I always let them outside before I head out, even if I think I won't be gone long. Things come up and you can get delayed.

Imagine trying to hold it for an hour or more...poor pup. Now you know, Op. I'm glad that he sounds like he's going to be o.k.

I have a lab and he can hold his bladder for hours if need be, but, in normal circumstances he goes outside throughout the day and he stands near the door when we he wants to be let out. If you prefer a regimented schedule, I would let him out one more time. So four pees a day.


Absolutely! No more crating without a pee first. I have learned my lesson.

OP, you are criticizing everyone for their reading comprehension skills but you are severely lacking in clear writing skills.

I "think" after re-reading your post and this thread that you normally do not leave your dog for long stretches but I am not so sure - since you are not clear.

Your dog should not be in a crate all day.

If you do not have a yard for your dog to run around in, your dog should be walked 5x a day.

Regardless of your lack of writing skills, my guess is you are not a responsible pet owner. Dogs rarely IF EVER pee in their crates.

And she is at home! "He doesn't need to?!" So it is fine for him to suffer needlessly rather than you take him out for a couple of minutes? Do you live in a house?
