Fine, sorry for not reading, but please explain how come you are home this whole time and you don't let your dog out for 8 hours?

When I go out, and always take my dog out before I leave, especially if it has been a couple of hours. This is such a common sense dog ownership rule that I wonder if you are fit to have a dog.
We used to do this when he was little, but for several months now he has done fine being occasionnally crated without a pee. Understand that this is a large breed dog, not a small dog.
But I realize some of you are too busy trying to accuse me of animal cruelty that you are beyond rational discussion. Reminds me of the political forum![]()

I have large breed dogs and I always let them outside before I head out, even if I think I won't be gone long. Things come up and you can get delayed.
Imagine trying to hold it for an hour or more...poor pup. Now you know, Op. I'm glad that he sounds like he's going to be o.k.

That you expect to go for 10 hours without peeing and pooping. I just don't understand why do you have a dog? So he is in a crate almost all day apart from a walk? So, till 6ish on a normal day? See, my dog will walk to the door when he needs to go outside. Think about your dog being in agony for maybe hours, because they do this only if unavoidable. You are a terrible person.
Again , please read. The dog is not crated during the day, only for short periods afternnon or evening, and not every day.
Wow, you guys have serious reading comp issues! It’s stunning.

He does not need to. He is a large breed. He has two long walks and one short walk every day. Ask your vet.
Except apparently today he needed to.
I have a lab and he can hold his bladder for hours if need be, but, in normal circumstances he goes outside throughout the day and he stands near the door when we he wants to be let out. If you prefer a regimented schedule, I would let him out one more time. So four pees a day.
Absolutely! No more crating without a pee first. I have learned my lesson.

And she is at home! "He doesn't need to?!" So it is fine for him to suffer needlessly rather than you take him out for a couple of minutes? Do you live in a house?
He peed his crate. He clearly needed to go out....right?

I have had labs all my adult life. 8 hours is too long, particularly for a one year old.
OP, you need to take him out more often. 3x/day is not sufficient.
