If I showed up and she was way fatter or older than her photos, then she lied to me and I'd have no compunction about heading out the back door.
This one sounds more like he read her as whoa crazy crazy. If that's the case, you almost have to sneak away to avoid a scene. No one likes getting a drink thrown on them or being stabbed.
My first thought is that he was having an anxiety attack-had a couple drinks to see if he could settle, realized he couldn't and left.

What women do is agree to meet you, and then they don't even show up. Because their phone presented them with some theoretically better option. And they don't even bother to tell you or they give some lame excuse. So pardon me for not caring much when the shoe gets put on the other foot.
