No I think you have it backwards. If you can't write effectively about something you're sincerely passionate about, you're probably not going to Yale.
Yeah she is not going to Yale. But hopefully top 25. She does write effectively. Grades not quite high enough for Yale. Her Sister might.
Ok, well then let me give you this bit of advice as the parent of a daughter who ignored her guidance counselor's warnings about her essay topic... and then proceeded to write her way into Northwestern University as a Regular Decision admit...make sure your kids write about whatever truly inspires them, not what they think will impress an admissions officer. To think own self be true etc etc.

Yes, this does sound like sour grapes. You have to be extremely talented to get recruited by Stanford for pretty much any sport, and you also don't get to that level without putting in huge amounts of time. There are far more bright, well rounded kids with perfect stats than there are smart kids who have extraordinary talents, including athletic ones.

This is true. Princeton, for example, is SCEA, so you can apply only to Princeton and public institutions - no other privates.
There's no real bar.
Of course, you can only go to one!
2 of those are ED. So you would have had to sign the agreement that you would go. No self respecting guidance counselor would allow a student to apply to two ED schools, setting aside the 2 SCEA ones. Try harder next time.
