Kavanaugh belongs to Columbia not Chevy. Columbia is heavily Catholic. Chevy is more mixed these days, kind of a little sampler of each of the "exotics" (e.g., jewish, black, asian, etc... and YYES, I say this in jest/sarcastically). We do know a few folks of color who are members (men and women). Most are married to a white person. Its very conservative and preppy but not pure white anymore.
Kavanagh definitely belongs to Chevy. He may belong to Columbia too.
No wonder he was deeply in debt. Those membership fees are no joke.
I bet his parents paid the fees. That's often the case with folks who grew up around here and whose parents were members.

But you are attending a private function, not joining the club so I don’t see why it would be a concern. Are you thinking your spouse would be treated differently by the staff or something?
No its not. It's a reflection of their racist past. Read some history on the clubs and neighborhoods in the area please...Chevy Chase was created to keep Blacks and also Jews OUT. Why any black person would want to live there today is beyond me. Read up on Francis G. Newlands who viewed black people as a race of children.

The only minorities I know there are mixed couples and very conservative think pro-Kavanugh, pro-Cheney, Bush, and pro-Trump. And you do realize some minorities can also be pretty racist especially if they’re trying to climb the social ladder they really try to distance themseld from certain other minorities.

Anonymous wrote:Hello I was recently invited to a family wedding reception at the Chevy Chase Club in Montgomery County. Growing up in MoCo in the 80's people always said the club was racist. Not like the structural racism in society, but like out-right racism, ie we don't let black people in. Documentation from back then does seem to support this. I am now married to an African-American woman and feeling uncomfortable about attending. I don't want to rock the boat too much with the family, and want to make sure that if we don't go because the reception is being held there, I am not just going off of stuff I heard growing up. Any thoughts on the club still being racist?
