Yes you remember the incident but the small details can be altered by your brain. You don't remember exactly, your memories do shift. Ongoing abuse in the home is different to a one time paddling at school.

"Raise hell"? You won't get anywhere with one incident as vague as this memory. Lives are long and I think you are reflecting back through a modern lens. The Kavenauh hearings dredged up a lot, most of which is unresolvsble. Just take care of yourself.

I am 58 and nothing remotely like this was done in schools where I grew up.


Fantastic for you. I am 39 and paddling was still alive and well when I was in elementary school in the 80s/early 90s.

It still happens. Paddling in school is still legal in 19 states.

I grew up in NY and we had nothing like this either, but I think it was more common in the south.

OP, I agree with the therapist idea. Maybe go find someone to talk it through with.


Absolutely. I graduated from HS in GA in 1985. Plenty of kids were paddled, mostly boys (caused more disturbances) but plenty of girls. Three whacks was the max you could get, but often the smaller female teachers would send one of us to go get the Principal (former football coach) or current football coach. To make it hurt more.

You're clearly making it bigger than necessary. TONS of people were paddled back then. That you think it had sexual overtones says more about you then the incident.

I also had Brothers in HS who were not as sadistic but I was pretty sure there were sexual overtones. 40 something years later it became a scandal and some of the Brothers in my era were identified.
