For what it's worth, my secondary students who are girls wear shorts for cross country practice. It isn't a uniform: they could wear capris if they wanted, but they don't. Also, the girls in the dorm I supervise lounge around in (short) shorts unless it is really cold.

Why would you need to? I wore a fitted top with my capris in my gym class after work today, as did half the class.
