Please consider giving your child the longer version of the name so that she can use this if she wants later, when she is working or completing a resume, etc.

So, Beatrice or Beatrix, and then nickname Bea, or Eleanor, and then nickname Nell?

Just as a Beatrice can call herself Bea, so can a Bea call herself Beatrice. There is no name police.

Have you heard of the website DCUM?

Or Germany. But it’s mostly to keep morons from naming their kid ‘Adolf’ or ‘Mein Fuhrer’.
We should have the name Police here to keep people from naming their kid ‘Donald’ or ‘The Orange Fuhrer’

It's also nice as a nn for Eleanor.

I love a lot of the other suggestions people have made, especially Tess and Jane.

That sounds more like a name with the nickname of Jan - and it’s just not very pleasant. Janelle? Nah.

Janice - Jan
Eleanor or Nellie - Nell

I've never warmed up to Beatrice. But how about Bea as a nickname for Belinda or Bridget or Brenna …?

They are both bad. You need to start over. The names you chose are old and tired sounding. I would not saddle a child with either.

My cousin has a Bea (Beatrice) but I’m partial to Nell because it was my grandmother’s name (her mother was Nellie).

I know a Nell and a Bea and think they are both adorable names. I have a slight preference for Bea.

Surely you can see how this is not the same thing at all.

Why isn't it, and even if it isn't, how does that matter?

I know a Nell whose full name is Helen so it could also be a nn for that. I love the name Nell!
