Nope. I like when they feel awkward around ME though. Like the time I went to a boss's mansion for a fancy dinner and when they found out I was from Flushing AND never went to private school, they looked at me like I was stealing their silver.

It depends on the people. Some of my super rich friends are down to earth and I'm really happy for them that they're financially successful. Some are super flashy, over the top materialistic and can't stop talking about their beach house, trips, etc. I think they feell awkward around me and think I'm jealous and not wish I were them. I'm happy with my life and try to remember that it's relationships and other materialistic things that create contentment in life.

I have more than most and less than some and I never feel awkward either way. Flash and glam are not for me so either way I'm pretty laid back.

Never awkward but sometimes a bit envious. However, we're doing fine and we have a great marriage and great kids and maybe they don't so my envy disappears very quickly.

I feel awkward around my family - we grew up poor, and now I'm DC-middle class (not to be confused with small-town WI middle class). Everyone apologizes to me about everything (I know this restaurant isn't very good...) or they don't ask about me at all. I grew up there, so I don't expect it to be anything other than what it is. It's a very weird divide that I now go out out of my way to downplay everything.

I'm not impressed by anyone's money. If they are braggarts or snobs or really materialistic, then that can be uncomfortable. If they say things that demonstrate that they are totally clueless about how other people live, that can be awkward. But if they are nice and down-to-earth, there's nothing to feel awkward about.

Idk about this. We have something like a 50/50 split between private and public in our neighborhood and it doesn’t seem to impact friendships at all. We do have a bigger range of home prices from 1.5m-5m. At the upper end, I guess I don’t know anyone as well as the lower end. Mostly they are older without kids but for the younger few they seem to socialize with other higher end homeowners.

Yes, this.

I do sometimes, especially around the really high achievers. All of my building neighbors are millionaires, and most of them come across as UMC. They are just as nice/petty/interesting/happy/unhappy as everyone else out there.

It's awkward when new money people think every lower income person is a charity case.

Sometimes the awkwardness comes from a lack of things in common. Private v. public schools. Summer house? Live in help?
