If it is still 11th, then it is just a relabeling of the old class.
Yes, that would put you in Algebra in 7th so Calculus in 11th.
Well, assuming every curriculum is developed with the idea of the best prep for calc in 11th, then on some fundamental level they really are all the same.
Out of 700 APS 7th graders that take Algebra in 7th, only 70 take Calculus in 11th...was something I was told.
The accelerated math plan is shit.
How long have they been pushing a lot of kids to take Algebra 1 in 7th? My DS is now in 10th grade pre-calculus and it seemed like a lot of kids were taking 7th grade Algebra back when he was in 7th. And they are all now in pre-calc so I don't know why they wouldn't take calc next year? Could it be the "only 70" means only 70 take Calculus BC vs the slower paced Calculus AB?
You were "told"? That's a ridiculous stat and cannot be true.
It seems reasonable to me. Not many kids get to take a post calculus class in high school. Usually only 1 or 2 multivariable class sections are offered at good high schools.

Do 6th graders in aap take the 8th grade SOL?
No. They take Math 6 Hn, which covers 7th grade math, and take the 7th grade SOL.
We're in Fairfax. I believe they basically skip 8th grade math.
This is what APS was doing for kids taking Algebra in 7th. The new path is designed to cover the 8th grade concepts in addition to 7th. (They include 6th in the name but really kids taking that will have covered 6th grade in ES).
No they won't. They said they are no longer covering 6th in 5th.
So they aren't going to present ES kids with any concepts above grade level, even if they are thoroughly bored on grade level? I certainly hope that's not true! I'm glad my kids are past that and got challenging math in ES.
They said they would do "some extensions" for gifted learners, and that "may" involve some 6th grade concepts. But no systemic instruction of 6th grade concepts to 5th graders. Which is as you would expect from the new pathway where 6th graders either take Math 6 or Math 678.
I had a kid do the old accelerated route and it's been fine. Don't like the sound of the new one.
