Hispanic kids play because the parents love soccer and it's a part of their lives. Just like we watch football on thanksgiving. US will always be 2nd tier because we don't have a soccer culture and we field teams with the best that we have to offer in terms of players interested. Other countries, their top athletes play soccer, not basketball or football.

Very true. Too much one touch soccer that kills creativity.
My son is AA and Mexican and plays on a "non-Hispanic" team and is really good. After one touch, here comes the coach "look for your teammates".

The aggression (and I don't mean physicality...I am OK with that) is overboard for 12-year-olds. I am talking about the amount of trash talk. It could be that they are entering the tween period and it's natural to start using curse words, etc. But there's been a noticeable difference with the Hispanic teams. And it's not just using swear words, it's saying horrible racist and demeaning things... Can someone explain this to me...? Tolerance and embracing diversity are values in our house but these real-life experiences, weekend after weekend, are starting to taint my child's views of this particular culture and I want to be able to counter that... Any thoughts?

I think it’s instructive for my kids to experience it first in a relatively safe environment (soccer game) because it exists in the world and they need to learn to deal with it. Unfortunately. Our coaches teach the team to continue to play our game and not lose our values, while continuing to play hard and not back down. Life lessons

One touch soccer does not seem to be stifling creativity in Spain, Germany, Belgium, France, etc. I rarely see American teams (including our national team) that are capable of executing one touch soccer the same way as Barcelona, Real Madrid, ManCity, etc do. It is one of the hardest things to execute, but if executed properly, it is the hardest thing to defend against.

Read more carefully. Poster was talking about North/South America.
Poorly described and written.
I guess you need to limit also to the men’s game. There is a country on the women’s side north of the equator, in the Western Hemisphere, who has won World Cup.
I had heard that too, I heard they've actually won it more than once, and that they're still ranked number 1 in the world --- I'm not sure if that true not though.![]()
Apparently, it's just cause they're better athletically though, not because they any actual soccer skills.
What's funny is that their is only one Western Hemisphere team from south of the equator ranked in the top 20 in the world --- can't fathom how that could be.
