I think it's a great idea. I hate sleepovers for the reasons you mentioned. No one ends up having much fun after about 10pm anyway. I think I would call it a "pajama party" instead of a "sleep under" because otherwise you're inviting kids to think about what they AREN'T doing (sleeping over) rather than what they are doing that they might not get to do at a normal party (wearing PJs and staying up late).

We hosted one when my DD turned 5 and the kids all had a blast. We had karaoke, nail painting, and I bought a bunch of pillow cases on amazon that had a design the girls could color. Some of the moms stayed since a few of the girls were only 4 which was nice since we had a chance to catch up over some wine. I highly recommend. Easiest party I've thrown over the years and cheapest!

We all them late-overs and personally I prefer them to sleepovers. It's so much easier for the host and the kids get a somewhat decent amount of sleep.

We have done Pajama parties in the past. Though the party ended at 11 pm. We drove kids back to their homes. Usually on a Friday of a long weekend.

We did this for my daughter when she turned 7. It was lots of fun. We called it a late-over.

Op here. We would invite 5 kids maximum and everyone lives within 1.5 miles. Happy to drive everyone home or Parents can pick up.

My 7yo just asked why can’t everyone just sleep over. Face is 1 or 2 kids are a handful and I can already foresee them not sleeping. 7yo has never been to a sleepover except the day his baby sister was born.
