Subject: Real life experiences at schools in Del Rey
I live in Del Ray, there are plenty of kids here. plenty. Whoever has been writing that there aren’t any kids must be driving around the neighborhood during school hours or is just plain lying.

Actually there has not been a single response on this thread from someone claiming JH works for them. Reread the thread and you’ll see that the closest you get is the family with a toddler who they allegedly intend to send to JH in 3 years and claim it’s fine because “everyone” who has kids there is happy, despite the fact that they acknowledge all of the kids on their block go elsewhere.
Yes there are multiple people actually claiming to have kids at MVCS who have had good experiences but as many others have pointed out MVCS and JH are a completely different ballgame, despite what the parents of the 2 year old may try to tell themselves.

Where are the posts saying people will regret their decision some day? I haven’t seen that but maybe I missed it.

I genuinely don’t know what you’re talking about. Most people seem to be sharing first hand experience or experience from people they know personally. Are those not valid things to share? Yes there is occasionally a stray person who is just rude. But I think you’re being defensive and dismissing what people are saying because it doesn’t reinforce your experience and point of view.

We are a Del Ray family districted to JH and are in the process of househunting now that my older child will be entering kindergarten next year. I have talked to several neighbors who have tried, and left JH. More concerning to me than the failing academics (which at the early ages I think we could mitigate with supplemental work at home) are the consistent accounts of exposure even at the youngest ages to inappropriate behaviors such as fighting, swearing, and even sexual innuendo.

My best guess as someone who has lived in the neighborhood for many years is that these nasty folks are those who are resentful they've paid so much money for private school or moving to a less-fun/further out neighborhood and are looking to convince themselves that they made the right decision and/or convince others to follow their lead, thus reinforcing their decision that way.
What I have always told families is this: every single family has to make their own choice, and you can't do that by following the herd, certainly not on an anonymous message board. Go on a school visit. Talk to current (not former, not people who never went) families. That's the only way you'll see if a school is right for you.
And as for the people saying there are no kids in Del Ray, what planet are you living on??? Nearly everyone here besides a few old timers still left has a kid, a dog, and a yoga mat.
