It was an honor that McCain didn’t deserve, just like the eulogies from two past Presidents who themselves admitted how surprised they were that he asked them to speak. And the three funerals (Arizona, DC, and Annapolis), and the lying in State in the US Capitol, and military jet flyover, and on and on. Does that family have no shame?!


Why can't Cindy use her own money from her vast beer business to pay for some of this extravaganza? She is worth millions but decided to ask Trump for government handout?

But, yes, denying use of the plane to transport the body and family of a sitting member of congress would be disrespectful. I'm mildly surprised Trump allowed it but don't think he deserves any special acclaim for following presidential norms, even if that is something of an exception for him.



Presidental norms? What other presidents did this? Curious. If it’s normal wouldn’t we know about it?

Back in 2001, I worked on staff for a Member of congress who died while in office. The President (Bush) approved the member's DC staff to fly on the plane used by VP Cheney to SC for the his funeral. We flew down and back in one day. It was not called AF2 because Cheney wasn't on it.
I assume process hasn't changed.
