Yes, she is rude and as others have pointed out, probably jealous.

If she says anything about painting or such: "Oh you know, you are more than welcome to help me re-paint. When are you free?"

About your "dead-end" job: "But I love it. So no need to worry about my career track."

I would just stare at her blankly when she says stuff like that and then change the subject. As PPs have said, if you call her out on it she likely will saying something flippant like, “I’m kidding.” Or “don’t be so sensitive.”

She’s obnoxious. Know that about her and let these comments roll off your back. If you really can’t eliminate contact, make it as infrequent as possible. I’m a people pleaser, but when people are overtly rude I get politely blunt; I might say, “there’s no reason to be unkind,” or “that’s rude.”
You can use humor and ask, “did you really just say that?”

I understand that your husband's friendship with the DH stops you from calling her out, but it seems that her remarks have happened more than once. Gloves are off, it's time to set her straight no matter who is within earshot. She is a guest in your home and throws shade? Dig deep and find your inner Atlanta Housewife.
