We have lived all over the US (and in several overseas locations). This is the third time we have live in/near DC. This area is much more segregated and racist than anywhere we have lived in the south. It's just hidden behind things like magnet schools, charter schools, private schools, and limited affordable housing. Don't kid yourselves. For all the talk of inclusivity, this is a very, very racially backwards place.

It's "farther," but that's OK.
Signed, a Southern school grad
That's ok. My kid will be much better educated than me. I didn't go to college lol. Hubby, however, did a few ivy leagues.

From southern Cali, DMV is like Georgia.
From DMV, southern Cali is vacuous and self-absorbed.
Some posters have pointed out DMV is still racially segregated like south. Just look at the cafeteria workers, security, janitorial personnel - and then the school administrators.
The cafeteria workers and custodial staff are often Hispanic around here, as opposed to exclusively black, and the administrators and students are racially diverse. I understand the division still exists, but it is quite a different appearance than an area that is exclusively black and white.
