My current wife and I did this, however we’re both very much into fitness; especially at that time ~9yrs ago. It wasn’t necessarily a date, just working out together, and chatting and kinda getting a feel for one another. I think the key is for both individuals to be somewhat into the gym/fitness

Not offended. But bad idea. You don't know each other. Working out styles could be different, could be different levels of fitness (despite looking fit). And like somebody said, boring, can't really talk, and yuck. Bad idea. Save that for later in a relationship.

I find it weird from the standpoint of how are you actually going to have a conversation with the person? In between sets? While panting on the treadmill? Afterwards over a green smoothie? It just doesn't make sense and says to me that, as PP's noted, it's purely a bizarre weed-out tactic.

I totally get why this would feel weird if you aren’t into fitness, but I would love to do this! It sounds fun to me. Just sharing so that you can think of it from that perspective - he may just be suggesting something he thinks would be fun and a little off the beaten path.

Someone asked me to do yoga for a first date. No way! Weird.

Guy here, I can not imagine a worse date. Of course, I am in my 50's with a heart condition. Ideal first date: cup of coffee and a long conversation.

7:21- I wouldn’t be offended. I would be happy he showed me who he was upfront so I’m not spending any more time on him and I’m sure my friends would have some nickname to refer to him from there on out when we talk about dating and how it’s going.

Unless you said something about being into working out and always wanted to see x gym, this would be my hint that we wouldn’t suit. Either he is tone deaf if he really thinks this is a great first date when I’ve expressed no interest in it and it’s not a great way to talk OR he is all about himself where he wasn’t even trying to pick something you might enjoy together but was focused on what he would get out of it (could be not changing his routine like hey I have to slug to work, why don’t we do this together as a first date, or it could be his version of a glass slipper test). Whatever his reasoning, I wouldn’t waste my time when I know it wouldn’t work.

Hell, no! Not my idea of a good first date at all! I'm all for active first dates but working out at the gym doesn't meet that criteria. If that's his idea of a good first date, we are not compatible.

It depends, how did you meet? Have you expressed interest in working out? Are either of you trainers?

I went to a boxing class with a new date. It was something I enjoyed, but it was a few dates in. We’d already built interest.

I don't think going to the gym is a good idea but why shouldn't a man be concerned about your real measurements and natural face? That's who you are and who he might eventually wake up to. Nobody wants to go on a date with a spanxed up, make up-clad woman only to see the "real" person later.

Maybe you don't want to, but you actually always do. Dates hardly ever happen in a gym. It's not that there is something to hide, meeting in a gym or a swimming pool (i got asked to do that one!) is an abrupt situation that doesn't feel natural with someone you don't know. No one ever asked anyone to come to work without make up. If you personally can not see 'the real person' because of her fake eyelashes, that is your problem. I can, easily.

Also, we'd like to believe we were chosen not only based on our rocking bodies.
