Seriously. Had a fancy bakery cake this weekend. The icing was great and the actual cake was dry and crumbly. Not worth the money.

Wegman's chocolate cake is great. The white and coconut cakes are disappointing - their white buttercream is gross, just tastes like Crisco. Their fruit tart is nice.

Victoria's Cakery in Fairfax City is AMAZING and blows grocery stores out of the water. Their chocolate buttercream is the best thing ever.

Agree that Heidelberg and Pastries by Randolph are overrated (same goes for Buzz Bakery).

Balduccis has the best chocolate cakes. Especially the one with raspberry an chocolate. Expensive but yummy!

At the Wegmans in Centreville, they sell slices of the sheet cake. They're in a small case near the cafe checkout registers.

You are tasting the WRONG cakes. Have you had pastries by randolph's chocolate mousse cake? Or bakeshop's red velvet or any other cake? Those blow wegman's out of the park. There really is a vast difference.


Oh god. I had a cake from Randolph’s once that had so much sweet, sticky syrup on it that it tasted like cough medicine. Blech!

I got a “smash cake” from Harris Teeter for my son and box mix would have been better. We like Heidelberg Patty Shop in Arlington. It’s not fancy, but it’s very good. We love Choc mousse cake and Steinway cake.

We had a cake from Heidelberg that tasted like nothing. All of their bakery looks good, but tastes like nothing.

I thought Randolph's was flavorless. And I met a special trip just to go there.

If you're up for a road trip, they just opened a store in Fredericksburg! I drove down last week. That's how much I miss Publix! I got a chicken tender sub and a ton of groceries. I think I'll likely drive down once a month to get my fix.
