Try Warren Wilson College- right outside of Asheville. It's a small college with a gorgeous campus. Very hippy vibe. Strong study abroad program and great school for kids interested in Environmental Ed, Ecology and veterinary among others...

I think St. Lawrence has an outdoors semester program, & it's not as hard to get into as NESCAC schools.
