I’m sure W & L is a good education for the right kid. My kid is not that kid. Interesting that TJ almost never has anyone apply or attend, despite in being in VA.
OP: getting into CMK is going to be a heavy lift from this area— maybe harder than an Ivy, because there are so many qualified kids, and CMK tries hard to mKe a super diverse class of 400–every state, dozens of counties, etc. They are only going to make so many DMV offers. But if you kid can get in and wants to go to CA. they should do for it. Grad schools and academic employers know all about it.
I’d pass on W & L. But I hate the good old southern frat boys and girls there to get their Mrs. culture.
It's too expensive and competitive for an Mrs. degree, try again.

Employers? No chance. Many confederate flags in and around C’ville. Are UVA grads struggling with the association? Same for many southern schools. Part of a weird problem but hardly unique to Lexington. Lexington is a very cute little town, ignorant yahoos aside, and immediately adjacent to the campus.

The only people that really care about either of these places are people who either attended or their kids attend/attended (in the scheme of things, that’s not a whole lotta people). That said, Claremont is the more generic and less offensive of the two. W&L with its Greek bend and Confederate flag waving town is the more likely to offend if it comes across the wrong employers desk (and yes, as of 2 years ago when we drove through Lexington, there were confederate flags (we saw them) flying in the town - it IS that kind of place for real.

Fantastic place. Went to the top of my daughter’s list after participation at their lacrosse camp and a private tour offered by a member of the administration. Incredibly nice people and gorgeous campus.

We toured Not impressed. Not worth the money The 82% greek participation figure is a turnoff, especially when you consider costs of membership. W & L is the only school I've ever researched that actually posts the costs of Greek participation on the "costs to attend" page.
