literally because my expensive education left me racked with guilt about the exploitation of labor and I would have to pay my "cleaning lady" $30/hour.

I actually do that, but not weekly.

Girl I am so happy for you and your new closet and also because I want the best for you, get an outlet run in the new closet and mount a Dyson stick vac on the wall, and get this thing from Etsy so the wall mount holds all the attachments at once. This is the one true path.

I love my Dyson V8 absolute. So lightweight my kid uses it to clean up spills. But I've only had it for 6 months and I hear they're delicate.

Though the motor on the Dyson is great, I've had a ton of issues with the plastic pieces breaking off. My canister has already been repaired once and pops off easily, the hose attachment has broken off, and now this morning the top handle broke off. Looks like I'm in the market for a new vacuum. Will be looking for something more lightweight this time. I have wood floors with large (5x7) throw rugs, plus pergo in the basement.

Dyson Animal rechargeable.

Hated my Dyson with a passion. The ball models seem so much flimsier than my original model that I loved. I replaced the ball model with a German brand, Sebo. I got the Felix model for about $600 and really like it because it's quiet, has crazy suction and fairly lightweight. It transitions between rugs, carpets and hardwood floors pretty well. For a cheaper option, I bought a Shark Powered Lift Away off Woot for my 3rd floor and really like it too. Definitely better than my previous Dyson ball. We also have a Dyson cordless which gets used almost daily in the kitchen and family room. I'm not a big canister person but we do have a cute entry level Miele canister at our beach house that is all wood floors and area rugs. It only has a turbo brush so I wouldn't want it for carpeting but it does a great job on hard floors.

3 floors, 4 vacuums. Each level has its own Electrolux canister with attachments, and we also have a wet/dry shop vac in the basement. We have mixed hard surfaces (tile, hardwood) with area rugs on all the levels and I've found lightweight canister vacs to be the easiest to use. Also great for stairs.

Curious about this too. We have a Dyson and it's falling apart, in part from being carried up and down stairs - the cannister falls off, the hose just hangs on the floor as the attachment is broken. It's not even 5 years old. I do love how powerful it is, but really getting sick of lugging the thing around, and definitely don't vacuum as often because of having to carry it.

I love my Miele - but not everyone loves a canister vacuum.

We also have a roomba that we run daily for maintenance.

I have an inherited Rainbow and as much as I hate that thing and generally always use my cordless Dyson for kids messes, I have to admit it does a much better job.

My mom bought one of those. Man, that thing is a pain, but it gets the carpet so much cleaner than anything else.
