OP here, yes we looked into minivan, I didn't realize they were that expensive. It will wouldn't be a stretch if we were using it daily. But yeah I think maybe it is going to be a used minivan.

If you won’t use it much and mostly will use it for taking kids places, get a used minivan. If you find that you use it more than you thought, get the Subaru you really want in 2-3 years.
You may be loving city life with 2 preschoolers, but schlepping 3 kids and all their stuff on public transit or with a stroller is a whole new ball game.
OP here, not that it matters, the car we want is a WV Atlas
VWs are shit cars. But it sounds like it will fit your family perfectly, and I mean that in all seriousness. Fit you guys to a tee.

Who gives a shit what the particular model that you really like is new? If you don't want to spend $36k for a car that will be barely used (and I agree that you shouldn't) then don't try to claim the excuse that it's the only model to suit your needs. Minivans have been around since 1984.
This. Sell your car. Get a used minivan. Problem solved.
Anonymous wrote:you have to admit it is kind of crazy. Essentially OP is saying “We have a car that no longer fits our needs but we won’t part with it and only want a second car, which we won’t use very often, if it is perfect. Oh yeah, even if we did sell the first car we won’t put any of the funds toward a larger car even though we don’t think cars are a priority and a second car is too expensive.”
There is no logic which is why commenters are confused. I would love to see the responses if this was posted on the money and finance board!
