Can we safely say that a good quality 1 carat solitaire is the safest bet judgement wise? It's not tiny but isn't flashy either. Pretty classic if you ask me.

I thought the trend these days was to wear a simple band and bring out the engagement ring for special occasions?

I LOVE it when I see a really wealthy woman climb out of her expensive car and she’s wearing a tiny, dated diamond ring. It says to me that she and her DH worked for what they have, and that their values are sound. Romantic!

Yes, When I see a ring, particularly a big ring, I see a woman who needed an expensive gift in order to see her spouse as worth marrying. I see a woman who needs a husband who is still very traditional and needs a husband who earns her love through gifts she can show off to prove to her friends he will be able to keep her and provide for her.

How the hell do you know if it's a blood diamond??

NP, but I think the majority of them are blood diamonds. The whole diamond industry sickens me. SO many women don't seem to care so I don't tend to think less of women with diamond engagement rings, unless they announce proudly that they "don't care" about blood diamonds, as I once heard someone do. Go screw yourself.

OTOH, if I meet a woman with a non-diamond engagement ring (or none at all), I do give her points. My engagement ring is a sapphire.

We were both graduate students. My husband bought what he could afford at the time. We couldn't afford a wedding, so we went to the courthouse.

We've been married for 25 years, and will retire as millionaires.

And I'll still wear my flat, tiny, plain gold band just to earn the disrespect of shallow people like OP who judge people's worth and experience based on a piece of metal.

Ha, yep. Opted out of engagement ring for SO many reasons. And coincidentally, the 4 coolest women I know also don't have a diamond engagement ring. They really are the most amazing, confident, creative, capable women I know. And they all thoughtfully chose not to get an engagement ring.

So I am 19:22. If you saw my large-ish ring what conclusion do you come to?

NP here. That you are insecure, materialistic, status obsessed, and not a feminist/not interested in women's rights. I'm sure I can be wrong, but not thinking through something like this, the implications for diamond mining, perpetuating the patriarchy, etc. are just so stupid. Plus, a diamond solitaire is a silly piece of jewelry for everyday wear. I see women wearing this $20k ring while they prance around outside in basically their pajamas.

LOL, yes I judge them. The bigger the ring, the dumber the wife and the smaller the husband's cock.

I rarely notice rings, and never judge anyone on that basis.

I have a big engagement ring - 2.5 carats - which was my grandmother's. We were young and poor when we got engaged and I never would have wanted DH to waste money he didn't have on a ring. But of course looking at my ring you might not draw that conclusion.

I notice style more than size. And even if it’s not my style, I still don’t really judge. I just like seeing different ones. The size of it really says nothing to me.

I just notice if they are pretty or not. It’s just a stupid sparkly thing.

I love stupid sparkly things but the are indicative of less than nothing about anything. Also, some of those husbands you’re judging are probably wives.
