It is hard to get U8 parents to commit to much unless you hold the travel carrot over their heads. U8 house cost is minimal, so it's a filter to pre-select a travel team.

It's a Moneygrab sheep. Play on a U8 team, have fun, and put that money into other sports. These boys are little. Don't be a sheep and do juniors because you are worried you're not going to make a travel team in McLean. Sheesh! We skipped it and our DS is on a top team now.

sorry, should have mentioned I was not pp who said they didn't get anything out of it. Just a parent whose kid may want to play in this program starting in 2019 so keeping an eye on this thread to see how the Coerver thing works out and what folks actually think of this program vs other options for this age group. Of course i've been reading the FCBEscola thread too, which kind of has me wishing Evergreen Sportsplex weren't so darn far.

Juniors solves for a gap in the U-8 development market in this areas.

If your kid wants to play travel it’s a great program to teach development skills.As a parent you can test the waters a bit to see if the travel commitment (3 practices a week, games etc), is for you.

If you don't want to pay for technical training and your are fine doing intermittent travel type training (aling side rec coached by parents), there are other programs that can solve your need at many other local clubs.

However, Juniors fills a pretty good niche for those who spent enough time in rec to appreciate the parent volunteer coaches who give their time, but also recognize their kid wasnt getting any real soccer development (and in some cases was building bad habits).

Juniors had a big impact on my son’s soccer IQ and technical skills. It also undid some of the bad rec habits so that when it came time for travel he made a good team.

Our year there were about 70 who tried out and @ 42 who made—so those that wound up in the program were the best from rec. I imagine that fluctuates year to year which I suppose could impact experience...

All in all I definitely think we got our money’s worth on this one...and I would make the same decision...

Do you know ANYTHING about what Arlington does at U8? Describe the Arlington U8 program please.

Not about money, but rather giving those players specific training from top club coaches so they have a pre-travel experience before U9. Mclean doesn't do anything special at U9 because of Juniors. Watch them play .... they are not known for their foot technique at that age.

My DC got great training by the coach at Juniors. I wouldn't say it was a money grab at all. Arlington only focuses on winning at all costs. Juniors program focused on problem solving and development

Coerver is great training.

Maybe BRYC should copy FCB escola, they seem to be making it work - no league just tournaments and internal scrimmages

I've been trying to better understand the BRYC experiment and if it's being considered successful. How long have they been doing this experiment? Do parents at the younger age groups, really understand what they are buying into or what are they really thinking if they are staying. just conveniently local or something else?
