Well, MIT is the best engineering school in the country. So you have a point. But it is ranked 4th in the country in engineering. If you are serious about engineering, it is an excellent consolation prize.

GT has the best aerospace engineering program in the U.S. It's almost impossible to get into, especially OOS

Purdue is another very good aerospace engineering program (and good in many other disciplines as well).

As does USC (S. Carolina).

USC (S. Carolina) surprises me every year - but USC gives LOTS of merit aid to kids in the donut hole - so it shouldn't be that surprising.

How odd.

It's test optional. Probably a big draw.

Lots of interest of going west!

Going west for these two powerfully second rate CA schools on your list and one that is vastly overrated and still has an inferiority complex?

Huge surge in applications at NYU. Went from 35% admit rate in 2016 to 28% in 2017 to 19% this year.

Why, one wonders.

In VA, “hot” schools that are not well ranked are nothing more than places where the kids of privileged people go when the kids get turned down by UVA and/or William and Mary.

This is not only untrue, it's also obnoxious.

Purdue is popular for Engineering. I know a few each year in NOVA the turn down Tech for it and a few that go because they could not get to not Tech. More apply every year from our highschool. They have a much more collaborative program and Tech is still preaching every man for himself.
