I second Mohican as a fun and laidback pool and we have many friends who are equally happy at Little Falls, Bannockburn, Palisades, Merrimack and Tally Ho. I think the key is to be at a pool close by. You won't want to make an effort to schlep there if you have multiple or young kids. Having it be convenient is the primary thing - especially if your kids are doing swim team.

High Point in Falls Church has a waiting list (a couple of years wait). Tuckahoe in McLean is also good, and has tennis court, but has an even longer (around three years) wait. There's also Poplar Heights in Falls Church off Shreve Road, it's really nice.

In Alexandria, there are some decent city pools-- only problem is they can get crowded. Look on city website under parks and rec.

We joined Little Hunting Park Pool. It's nice: shade, snack bar, playground, tennis courts. costs about $500/season (plus initial membership fee of maybe $400?)

There is a wait list but check craigslist-- sometimes people sell their memberships their. We bought our membership from a neighbor.

I looked on the website listed above, and boy oh boy is it complicated to figure things out! My daughter, 8, would like to swim on a swim team. Does anyone have a number where I can call to find out what teams/pools have openings for an 8 yr old to swim? We are in Bethesda, but I am happy to travel with her if needed. She swims during the year at YMCA but just for lessons, not on a team, and she very much would like to join a team (and is a good little swimmer so I think would be able to do well).

Thanks.

Kent Gardens is a great pool...very laid back and mellow. If you are looking for a pool with a highly competitve swim/dive team, this isn't the pool for you! Very inexpensive for this area. $450 for the summer. We joined in 2005 and there was no wait list but now that might be a different story. GL!

Trying to rejuvenate this thread to get info or recommendations about community pools in the Falls Church / McLean area. Anyone have feedback about either Kent Gardens or High Point? Thanks!

If you live in Montgomery County, go to the Montgomery County Swim League website (mcsl.org) and click on "Team & Division Information." It lists the community pools in Mont. Co. that have swim teams (about 90 pools), and their addresses. Most of the pools have their own websites. If you live near one, you can call the pool and ask about membership or check its website (it usually lists a membership contact person). Some have wait lists, but many do not. Some have geographical requirements, some do not. Joining a pool and doing swim team have been great experiences for our family. Many of the pools have a wonderful sense of community and fun, low key, inexpensive events during the summer. Swim team is great for the kids. They have "A" level meets and "B" level meets so your kids can decide how competitive they want to be. Highly recommend joining a community pool.

We go to Upton Hill Regional Park, off of Wilson Blvd. in Arlington. For $135, we got a parent-child season pass and they have a kiddie pool, water feature, water slides, and a couple of big pools. Plus, it draws a great diverse group of families.

We go to Dominion Hills on Wilson Blvd. in Arlington. We waited for about 1 1/2 years for a rental. Next year, we hope to be offered the full membership. The only difference is that with a rental you are not guaranteed a spot each year. By paying the $800 membership fee you are.

We love it. Loads of kids and families and very friendly.

Yes. SES can join the officer's club pools.
