I would be most compatible with a retired firefighter or retired military, as long they are done having babies. Must love dogs. They need to be gainfully employed.

I just turned 40, and am happily married, but there's no way I or my younger friends would be looking at the 50+ crowd. Maybe the women who can't get men closer to their own age, but then they don't seem like such great catches...
I agree with this. I'm in my early 30s and don't know a single woman around my age dating men in their 50s. There are plenty of men available younger than that. Dating someone 50 plus would be undesirable because you're likely dealing with his kids from first marriage, or reproducing with a man in his 50s. I think this idea of women going after men 20 plus years older is from an age when women were dependent on men for income. I suspect many of the men posting this are from older generations.

I agree. My limit is about seven years older and even that feels a little old. When I was early 30s I didn't even want to date guys who were forty.
There are guys on this board who constantly try to convince women:
A) they need to sleep with men right away
And b) they need to date guys way older because guys around their age and a little
Older aren't interested.
I have zero friends who are willing to date guys fifteen years older or even ten years older.
This is my concern. I am 48, woman, never married no kids, career. No cats. I am being told that I can only find a man 15+ older.
I will move back to my home town in the midwest and date a high school friend, plenty of whom are my age and single.
In the midwest, huge age gaps are very uncommon. Once they have kids I have plenty of men 3 and 5 years younger who I am compatible with. I don't care about a guy's wallet.
Age gap relationships especially for 2nd marriages have a greater chance of divorce. How stupid are these men in their 60s who don't want women their own age?
I don't know that most men would believe this.

There’s a cover for every pot, but most 50 year old guys are looking for women their age who are able to support themselves, have similar interests, are at a similar place in life, and are not interested in having (more) kids.
Obviously written by a woman

As do I, but not for anything long-term. My last boyfriend (of three months) was 22 years my junior. Then he decided it was time to start a family and he reconnected with an old ex for that purpose. I don't get why I have to look at someone 15 years older than me, especially since the ones I see online tend not to have kept themselves up and may well have health problems, while I don't. I almost think I need to move out of the area once my kids are in college. I've also run into the ego thing of guys not wanting me to make more than they do several times. I don't see how dating a retiree would fix that.

I think I’ll be alone forever and I’m not sure I’m ok with that.
There’s your problem.

Really? Women that want to stay at home obviously. The 50s are a man's highest earning years. Where can I sign up?
