Op here. For what it’s worth, she’s not ugky by any means. She definitely has issues with her weight and probably will not age well but she has a really cute face and a bright smile. Think Melissa McCartney’s face.

Op here. The disparity in their looks is definitely similar.

I’m just surprised because every other couple I know the woman is either way more or just as attractive as the man.

Men very rarely date women less physically attractive.But it does happen!

Assuming there are equal numbers of attractive men and women, for every attractive woman who ends up with an unattractive guy, there's an attractive man who has to go for an unattractive woman. It's just the math.

Or maybe, just maybe, men aren't as shallow as we think they are.

Bingo. And do NOT underestimate what PPs said about being fun, good in bed, and willing. IME that is 10x more appealing to men than just physical beauty. They really are simple.

but there aren't equal numbers. When people are in their 20s especially there are many more women that men consider physically hot than men who women consider physically hot.

She was young and pretty when they met. She is years older than him though.

If you look at the photos you linked, when they met he hadn't quite grown into his looks yet and she was gorgeous. Now she is 62 and he is 49 so there is a pretty big looks discrepancy, but it doesn't matter so much given shared history. Once you fall in love you're bonded.

I'm my 20s I dated a completely gorgeous (tall, hunky, chiseled, successful) man. I was cute, pretty perhaps, and petite, thin, but not gorgeous and definitely did not do the long hair, makeup heels thing (I had short hair then...). I had no idea what he saw in me, as plenty of beautiful women (and men, this was SF) would hit on him and eventually I ended it, in part because he was looking to settle down and I was focused on my doctorate..but also because I felt like I didn't "belong" with him...and for sure I got a few quizzical looks from female friends of his who had been used to his tall blonde girlfriends.. ...looking back I wish I valued myself more. I brought to the table intelligence, kindness/unpretentious (I didn't care about money), good bone structure to.pass onto children, and a high sex drive. I realized later on that he was looking for someone who would make a good partner and I underestimated him...so op, you never know. And besuty is in the eye of the beholder!

I hate to say it, but this. I work with couples (not as a therapist!) and I can literally count on one hand how many couples I’ve seen over the years where a wealthy, gorgeous guy is married to a significantly less attractive woman. The handful of cases I’ve seen usually fall into one of a few categories: the woman has rich parents and guy is a gold digger, or the woman became ill and/or significantly out of shape after the wedding, or the husband kept his hair and aged very well and the wife didn’t keep up (divorces seem more common in this set)... The few cases that can’t be explained I usually assume are due to a fetish or something.

Come on, men aren't complicated. The guy is dating someone who cute enough, fun, and who shows up, particularly for sex.

I know a woman who tricked a man 10 years her junior by getting pregnant (she told everyone that she could never get pregnant).. She looks like an uglier version of Barbara Streisand while he is a 6'2 blond version of younger Enrique Iglesias. No one thought it would develop into a relationship, but it did and they married. He is very charismatic, highly educated and earns about 4 times she does. He is not gay, does not need a green card and definitely not gay.

I’m guessing that this woman is more attractive than OP is giving her credit for.

If he is truly that handsome, and she is truly that ugly, then I’d guess money, a green card, or homosexuality are involved. Or he has a micropenis or something.
