Hmm. I think a lot of couples on my feed are happy and they just want to brag about how awesome their spouse is. FWIW we are happy but not advertised on FB. I think there are lots of people who just want to gush about their spouses which is completely sweet.

There are a lot of unhappy people on this forum, unfortunately.

There is one such guy I see on Facebook that I think maybe he is articulating how great the second wife is out of some sort of vengeance toward his first wife. SAD on mother's day when he has kids with both of them.

The only couples I know who behave this way are in their second marriages, (2 with their affair partners, 2 I am not sure but suspect). I think it's a way to prove to themselves and everyone else that blowing up their lives (and the lives of their children) was totally "worth it". Pathetic.

Yes, always remember that social media emoting is a performance. I am never jealous of couples who engage in it, and know for a fact that several have serious issues.

DH and I make fun of people who over-gush on Facebook. They’re trying to overcompensate for something. My mom writes mush stuff about my dad but in real life she can’t stand his guts.

Hm. Shows everyone is different. I always feel bad for them because clearly they can’t communicate directly with their partner, and that must be a hard way to live.

Guys do it because they think it will get them sex. Period.

My take on this is I'll notice and appreciate a once-in-a-blue-moon shout-out to a spouse on FB. That, to me, seems like a genuine display of affection, pride, whatever, particularly if it's tied to a specific achievement. ("So proud of Larla, who graduated today with a Masters Degree after three years of night school. I love you, honey!")

OTOH, I find that couples who routinely fete their partners on social media are compensating for something.

BTW, same goes for "such a great Mom" posts on FB today.

There was the post the other day about the couple that fawned over each other on social media. Turns out he was cheating and she went and killed both him and his lover. You never know what the truth is ....
