We've had our car 15 years and still think of it as our new car. If you buy good quality and take care of things, they last.
You can "buy good quality" and "take care of things" and still want and buy something new.
DP.. I guess if you are wealthy, then sure, but if you are not really that wealthy, then it's not a smart move to keep buying something new just because you want it. This is how people get into the "I make 6 figures but still can't get out of debt" situation.
Either way, it's pretty wasteful. American are truly a consumerist, gotta have the latest and greatest, keep up with the Joneses, society. Sad.
