Initially we were thinking leaving the cabinets and countertop untouched, then it gradually crept into changing them all. Since we were removing all of those, I thought it was the chance to reconfigure the layout instead of putting the new cabinets and countertop exactly the same as before.
I thought the island (we intent to put 60" width island) parallel to the sink wall, somewhere in between. Essentially shift the breakfast counter space 90 degree and seperate it from the wall, so that people can access the kitchen from more directions.
