We are looking for a car and I am also put off by 7the black headlining no matter what colour rest of the car interior is. It makes the cars very claustrophobic and dark even in day time. I noticed sportier models tend to get it more. For example, it is only standard in the Mercedes' AMG trim models and you can't even specify lighter colour headlining as an option. Same with BMWs; M-sport trims on the market at the moment all come with black headlining and you can't specify light colour headlining. On their other models light colur headlining is standard e.g. on SE, Sport or xLine trims. I find black headlining is only bareable if there is sunroof to brighten up the interior.

I have had a light headliner and when loading things in car to carry one place to another sometimes, things accidentally scrape the top. It will always mark it and then trying to get it out, good luck. The headliner color does down to dash at each front door. Unfortunately it will be touched. I even sat in one car that was new and for sale. There was already a mark on that piece. No way would I buy a light headliner and that’s solely based on my experience. I’ve had black and never have I seen a mark on it and I’m sure it’s been scraped many times. Even if you try to clean a spot on the dark headliner you are able to. On a light headliner the mark just smears and looks even worse.

+1 We can respray cars, change the wheels and tires, it can't cost too much to change the color of a headliner.

Yes yes let's go back to the 90s where everything was beige. Just to be clear, black has been the most popular color car interior for many years. It's also a huge eyesore to have multicolor interiors (e.g. black seats, beige headliner). It's not a new thing, it's not going away

I would hate this. I love all light colors in a car. I once road with a friend in their car and it was a RR and it had a black headliner with stars, like actual twinkling stars. I noticed that. That was cool but a regular black interior roof would be a no for me as I need things bright. Black always brings heat anyway. I want a cool car in the summer.

Look in your local Yellow Pages for a company that does headliner repairs. Ask them how much to change the color. It can't cost that much.

This is hilarious to me... I have owned a lot of cars and I love when the interior is all black. On my sports cars I prefer black leather with red stitching and for the headliner, door panels, and dash I prefer suede(not micro suede or Alcantara, I mean real suede) but seats leather. Black is the cleanest feeling for me with dark infrared tiny as well. If I want to brighten it up that's what rgb led interior lights are for. I do like that natural orange colored leather for seats as well. I always see tan or beige, then wonder who actually would choose that if given free will and a choice... I found you! Lol. To each their own I guess, I know every dark interior I've bought looks new when I've owned and sold it.

Yeah I completely agree, went to see a Volvo S90 a few months ago, loved the car and it drove great for only 2 litres, yet I couldn't buy because of the horrible black headlining. Probably doesn't help that I also have a sun roof at the moment. I don't want to drive around under a big black cloud!
