I've never no-showed for a date, so I have no idea why people do this. I have had guys flake on dates at the last minute, though, which I think is pretty rude too. (And the reason why I generally don't give a weekend night date to someone early on.) I know more women who've had no-show dates than guys.

I have bailed out on a date before (i.e. declined to make plans after initially saying I would go out with someone) because the guy said something in conversation that was a huge turn-off for me. I remember one guy admitting on the first phone call (!) that he had 3 DWI's and no longer had a license. No thank you.

Both genders do this and I don't think it's accurate or helpful to attribute it to women.

Sometimes it's justified and should be excused--truly emergent, extreme circumstances arose and the soonest they can reasonably notify you is after the date. Car accident, for instance.

Other times it's dysfunctional and rude. People have flaws.

If this has happened to you twice I would suggest you are connecting with the wrong type of women. I would NEVER have done that in my single days.

Guy here and you're doing it wrong. Make the first date something quick during the week like grabbing a drink to suss out attraction and chemistry on both sides. This way, if it doesn't work out neither of you have wasted a scarce Friday night. Chances of a no show on the second date are much less than the first date.

In all seriousness, when my friends have been flaky with plans it seems like either the plans were vague like the guy said yeah maybe we can see each other Thursday but there are multiple guys with vague plans or they aren’t that excited about the 2nd or 3rd date but don’t want to be blunt. Those won’t be a no-show but maybe a late text fall thru of plans.

These were all first dates. Two of the three women had pursued me. None were a case of me begging them to go out.

I dated a lot in my 20s and had it happen a few times. More often with younger women. I think it's plain bad manners. If you can't make it, just tell me.

One of the reasons I'm with DW is she was always reliable and it showed she cared about me and my time. If I sent her a message, she'd write back in a reasonable amount of time (same or next day), and if she says she'll meet me somewhere, she'd show up. If she got stuck at work or otherwise couldn't make it, she'd let me know. It's just common courtesy.

I've never no-showed on a date in my life. Where are you finding these women?

The plumbing excuse is a good one, but where they are going wrong is their execution. You gotta commit and go with a full-on monster toilet clog. Been backed up for a few days, ate some fiber to get things going, and I swear to god the thing ended up being the size of my calf. The guy will either believe you because who makes that up, or be so disgusted that he’ll ghost you.
