Serious question OP - are you home when the mail is delivered? The RV family might be using your address for a cell phone bill or something else.

Also, what happens when the weather warms up and OP wants to use her front yard? I'm thinking about kids playing, balls getting bounced, games of tag, etc. At some point a ball will be thrown AT the vehicle or the vehicle will be used for "home base" or as a background to a fortress or something.

It's weird to have an *occupied* vehicle in front of the yard, can we all agree on that?

But one has to alert the police to have a car towed. Please explain how you can have a car towed from in front of your house without alerting the D.C. Police. Most towing companies will not tow any vehicle without the permission of the owner, the property owner who has clearly posted towing signs (in this case the D.C. Government) or an entity with authority to have a car towed, such as the D.C. Police

I have a friend who lives in an RV. He never parks it for more than 24 hours in the same spot as it draws too much attention. These people are just asking for trouble leaving it parked in the same spot for months.

Heck, even most Walmart stores allow overnight RV parking. Not sure if the DC store is one of them, but a quick call to the store would confirm or deny. As are most rest stops on 95 and 66.

I would report as an abandoned vehicle. At least the police will look into it.

Yep. You can't even park your own RV or boat on the curb for longer than 24 hours where I live. It must be in your driveway.

But DC and culture and charming and history and all that fun nonsense you get to deal with like this.

I lived out of a van for a couple years as a graduate student since I didn't want/couldn't afford to pay rent. Multiple people in the same vehicle seems a bit strange.

You're not a "jerk" if you don't want someone living in their car in front of your house. You are a normal and reasonable person. It doesn't matter if the people are not misbehaving or causing a nuisance or making you feel unsafe. I wouldn't want people doing that in front of my house, and I bet all the self-righteous PPs who are scolding the OP wouldn't want people living in a car outside their house either.

Yes, OP. These are people who, if faced with the same issue, would likely call the policy or social services. Don't let them guilt trip you. I was born in and have lived in DC for most of my 55 years and there is no way I would feel comfortable with folks living inside their car in front of my house or in close proximity. It doesn't matter where I live in the city. You are not responsible for their plight or obligated to tolerate it because you are not in the same situation. I would call 311 and get some advice on what can be done. I feel sorry for their situation but they will need to park somewhere else. I am glad to know there are no children involved which would complicate things.
