Just to reiterate: I would not see that invitation as a snub. They sent it to one half of a married couple--unless it's a guy's weekend or they explicitly say you are not invited, you are included in that invitation. Stop looking for offense.

Both you and your husband are very immature! Accept invitation, buy a gift, go to,party. You are sooo wrong and are looking to cause a family issue where there is none! Stop being so insecure. You are probably the main reason you only have only a cordial relationship. You need a major attitude change! Maybe a few sessions of counseling to help with low esteem.
The invitation whether evite or email is for both of you!!

OMG, you are just like my crazy SIL. We all tiptoe around her because she is always looking for offense. It is absolutely exhausting.

When you are inviting a couple, it is implicit that the spouse is included, OP.

The wording would have to be: "Dear John, you are invited to Peter's 40th birthday bash. Due to space constraints, we cannot extend the invitation to Susan." for the exclusion to be real.
