I have a 12yo Stella (family name, important to my partner) and we’ve only encountered two other kid Stellas (one in the DC area, the other a bit older in NYC).

Oh, please. Hyperbolic much? It's hardly Payslee/Ashtyn/Taylee/Lakynn, etc.

My niece (2.5) is a Stella, and she’s the only one I know! It’s a strong, elegant name.

Just because people give their dogs people names, it doesn’t mean the name is a dog name. A dog name is Bluey or Bandit, not Stella.

+1, I get annoyed when people call perfectly lovely human names "dog names." When people give their pets human names, it's because they are anthropomorphizing their pets, not because those names can now only be associated with animals.

Also, for whatever reason, people love naming female dogs with cute little girl nicknames. I think people just like saying these names. So yes, you meet a lot of dogs with names like Rosie or Molly, but it's because these names are cute and affectionate.

No it's because we like the names!

Not your question about current trends, but my mom’s name was Estelle and she was a truly magnificent person, beloved by her family and community. So, for me it is a beautiful name. She was one of few Estelles among her peers, but was named after an aunt and a nephew named his daughter after her. So a trend in our family.

I only know 2 kid Stellas (one is 10 and the other is 8). We have 2 kids ages 8 and 6 so we’ve met a lot of kids. I feel like it’s popular but not wildly so.

I teach at a DC metro elementary and there are about 3 or 4 Stellas in the school, out of about 500 kids. They would have been born between 2012 and 2018.

I don't think Stella is a natural nickname for Estelle, though. And if I met an Estella who went by Stella, I'd just wonder why her parents didn't name her Stella. Also S is a stronger/better first initial than E.
