What do you mean by Crohn's being another possible source of odor? I have Crohn's (thankfully not a colostomy bag) and I'm not sure what you could be referring to aside from maybe that we have to poop a lot? That doesn't make us smell though?

PP was referring to the bags sometimes being used temporarily on Crohn's patients, not saying that people w/ Crohn's smell.

Is the coworker bigger? Maybe they can't reach to wipe properly.

My cousin's daughter stayed with us a few summers ago and I noticed she smelled a bit like poo. She was on the bigger side; she was actually staying with us to take part in a children's hospital obesity study. In doing her laundry, I noticed her undies had lots of 'skid marks' in them. I brought it up with my cousin who was very, 'oh, yeah, that happens, forgot to tell you. Want me to make her do her own laundry?" She had no idea why it happened and didn't seem to care. I tried to be as gentle as possible. I handed her the laundry to put away and said, "hey, I noticed some marks in your undies. Is there a certain brand of TP you like? We can go to the store." Turns out, it was a mobility thing and she couldn't reach. Very heartbreaking.

Then I have another whose breath smells like pickles.

So puzzling! They both look very clean and have nice, white, clean looking teeth too.

If someone had both tonsils out, can they still get smelly stones/stuff back there?

This. A family member has one and I haven't smelled feces on them.

I have known two people with them, and never smelled a thing. But everyone's bag hygiene may not be the same.

PP here. It won’t be. The appliances themselves are not permeable so the only issue is if you have a leak. Most often this is because of a bad seal between skin and adhesive wafer. WOC nurses are expert troubleshooters of this stuff, the materials science is amazing, and you really have nothing to fear.

Thanks for the feed back. I’ll try to be more sensitive but I don’t spot a bag anywhere in sight nor do I want to go looking for it. I’ll get through it or try to look more busy so I’m less interrupted.

Yes, the bacteria smells like suplhuric mothballs and poop. Can clear out a room when it’s bad. The other day I was in the same grocery aisle as someone and could smell it.

I think this is the likely culprit if they appear otherwise clean and kempt. Much more likely than a stomy bag, a very close and elderly relative has one and I’ve never noticed an odor.

You're smelling tonsil stones, not periodontal disease.

Tonsil stones really do stink like crap. I know someone who got a lot of them and sometimes I'd say "ugh, your breath is gross, I think you need to go digging again" and he'd go and dig out like 10 of these foul smelling things...

This thread is making me nervous. I have an ostomy in my future and don't want it to be obvious.
