Georgetown has halo bias in DC, but rest of country does not see a difference.
+1
If you pay the difference, don't do it for the prestige. Georgetown is not that big of a deal outside of DC.
I think there is a bit of GU hate on this board. Georgetown is certainly well regarded across the country and having lived in different parts of the country I would confidently say that it is held in higher regard than UVA. But for me personally it wouldn't be worth the cost premium but I have no idea where your child's interests lie.....which I would hope would factor into the equation.
Sorry to blow your bubble but most outside DC will not know the nuanced difference among many schools in that area - except possibly JHU and Naval Academy - both in Maryland.

If she doesn't get a bid into a top tier sorority at UVA she's basically a ghost. And hometown girls will even promise your daughter a bid, get her to rush, then ball her. It's freaking vicious in C'ville.
Less than a third of females join sororities at UVA. Of that number, obviously even fewer are in “top tier sororities.” I’d love to know how a demographic that represents some 90% of the student body could be considered a ghost.

If you can swing it without much sacrifice, yes! Georgetown is well known abroad.
Here in the west coast, most can't tell the difference between Georgetown, George Mason, Georgia Tech...

I know someone whose kid turned down Columbia full pay for UVA in state, so I would say that if Columbia's not worth it, Georgetown certainly isn't.

UVA.
Georgetown is not worth that much more.
Martin J. O'Malley thought full-pay at Georgetown was worth it over in-state UMD. Took out loans so his daughter could attend while he was a sitting gov.

Massive loans? UVA.

This is an absurd comment. You can avoid the greek scene at UVA by not participating. All the houses are off campus. My DD has never set foot in a sorority or fraternity. She has her own niche of friends from the 300+ clubs UVA has. She doesn't even know anyone who is "in" a "top tier sorority" (never heard that said about UVA before either). It is not Washington & Lee at UVA.
