You do realiz that most of us EOTP are not in this position, right? The median HOUSEHOLD income in DC is 75K a year.

We also didn't get into any school.
Both my PK3 and K children are waitlisted on all our options.

My K has no chance of getting in anywhere and my PK3 has waitlist position #12 for Creative Minds, which I'm hoping this means we have an actual shot of getting in...but who knows?

cuz we have no IB PK3 in the ward we live....


all you do is create instability in the schools you put your kids in for 1 year of prek3 or two years, if you don't get into your IB Ward 3 school for prek4. You have ZERO intention of making a commitment to any of the schools on your list beyond a year. For those of us who decide to put our kids in these charters and improving DCPS schools, and invest time and money in making them better, I say shame on you. You drop in for a year, make no effort to become part of the parent community or do anything for the school, and as soon as you get into Janney or Mann, you bolt. I seriously do not feel the least bit sorry for you that you don't get to take one of these spots from a family that has a shitty path all the way through high school. If all you wanted was pre-k, you should have just signed up for Appletree schools.

OP, you will get into AppleTree in less than a month. Take the spot and save loads of $$ from your current situation. It's also not a horrible commute from WOTP. Then thank your tax dollars at work. I'm not trying to be snarky at all, you really are better than many that may not even have a shot at AT. It's fine preschool option. In fact, great for PK3 IMO.

When they tried that 3 years ago, Ward 3 parents threw a fit. I witnessed this personally at the community meetings. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Exactly. Parents of preschoolers want PK3 in Ward 3, but they are the only constituency. No one else wants to redraw the boundaries.

Sure you are. Soon, My School DC will list the schools that have seats available. Add those schools to your list.

Also, families that live IB to early action schools are guaranteed a spot. When there are more spots than kids, everyone gets a spot.

I agree, fair access to good quality public education froM PK3-12 should be made available to all DC residents, and that means W3 parents should try to be a little less selfish, otherwise me feeling depressed for not getting any of my kids to a PK3 DCPS gets well deserved criticism..

You are guaranteed a spot in PK3. There are enough slots. They just might not be at the schools you desire, are convenient for your commute, etc.


you are NOT gauranteed a spot in PK 3, at any location in the City.


DP. Poor wording but it is true there have always been unfilled seats for PK3 each year.

You will definitely get AppleTree. We applied a month after the deadline was waitlisted at #200s and got in a week before school started. Because Appletree is a preschool only one, people will leave for the ones that get into a Pk through 5th grade one. Appletree has a strong curriculum and you can tread water there for a year until the next lottery.
