We lived walking distance to where it's going to be co-located for six years. We didn't move because of violence; we moved because we were in a condo and needed more space. Now that my daughter is in, I wish I still lived over there.
What's a good neighborhood to live in for Stokes EE, east or west of river? Criteria - easy school access, good metro access, some walkability/amenities.
Potomac Avenue Metro/“Hill East”
I love Hill east but that is a 15-20 minute drive. Not that close.
If PP is looking for walkable amenities then the area around the Potomac Avenue is the closest. The amenities around Benning/East Cap leave a lot to be desired.
H Street Corridor might be doable too. Benning Road intersects with East Capitol not too far from the school, so public transportation to and from school may be an option. RFK Stadium area is good also - closer to Metro, but not as walkable. Both would be less than 10 min drive to the school, going against the bulk of traffic in the morning and evening.

I know this thread is in reference to Stokes EE, but would you care to share your experience with Sela maybe on a different thread. We are waitlisted at EE and Sela, but have a better number with Sela.

This is our third try for Stokes, and this year. This year, I was glad to be able to add the East End as my number one. I live less than five minutes away right off of East Capitol. I love where I live. It's quiet and will be convenient for my husband to drop my son off at before-care and head directly to work in VA instead of traveling through the city (my son is currently at Sela). For those wanting to know what the campus looks like, there is an open house for registration AT the East End campus on April 21. No one has a clue, as that situation is 6 years away and so much can happen between now and then.

Also, day cares in the neighborhood for my 2 year old? Home day cares ok too. Would love to not be dropping off two kids in two different areas!

We matched for French K but are on the fence about it. It's just sooooo far, and without the DCI guarantee... I would have to think kids with siblings at DCI would get most of Stokes' DCI allocaiton, so our chances wouldn't be good.
