No, I called them by their first names. When talking about them with the kids, they are Gram & Pop. They never asked me to call them mom & dad and I never had the desire.

My husband calls my mom "Momma D" and my dad by his first name, but that was because when he met my mom and said, "hello Mrs. P" she told him to call her Momma D.

That is extremely weird.

+1

My husband feels the same way.

I do call mine Mum and Dad, so pretty close. My own mother is "Mom," so I didn't want to use that but the British version works fine (she is from England). My own Dad was completely absent from my adult life so I have no problem calling my very involved-FIL "Dad."

No, first names

My mom and dad always called their in-laws Mr. And Mrs. Last name, so the first name thing is much less formal than the previous generation in my family.

I have a mom and dad and it feels uncomfortable calling anyone else that. That being said, I refer to my inlaws as grandma and grandma in our language (we have kids). Before that it was by their first name or your mom... I don't see myself ever referring to them as mom and dad. DH has been calling my parents mom and dad since we were dating (18).

I like my in-laws, but I just can't do it. I don't know why. Maybe because I dated DH and knew them for 5 years before we were married, so it would have been weird to start calling them Mom and Dad after years of not. I feel guilty about it because my parents have always called their in-laws Mom and Dad, so I feel like I should follow their example. Now that DS is around, I do call them Grandma and Grandpa, that helps. Before I just avoided referring to them by anything at all...

We do first names.

Same except now DH and I use Grandma and Grandpa with our respective MIL/FIL instead of names since we have a kid.
