Tampons dont break down when you flush them. Neither do condoms. Flush neither.

The boxes all say do not flush. Have you never seen a sign n a public bathroom saying do not flush?
Why would you want to add plastic to have t be cleaned out of our water supply? It’s just nasty.

I also grew up with a septic system, and knew when I was a kid to never flush them. I never have because now it's habit not to. No one wants to deal with a clogged toilet, and even as a kid, if the toilet was clogged, you fix it yourself where I grew up. You don't call a plumber. I've done plumbing all my life. Tampons are something I do not want to deal with. My girls know not to flush them? because I'd be the one fixing the problem.

I tried putting them in the trash. My dog likes to get them out of the trash and chew/spread them around the house. That’s far more gross than a clog in the toilet (which in 25 years of having a period hasn’t happened). I risk the clogged toilet.

I flush them any and everywhere.

If you are so grossed it by your period blood, get a hormonal IUD. I haven’t had a period in two years.

Before that I uses both a cup and ob tampons. I never flushed (on purpose...there’s been a few that have fallen in and I don’t did them out).

The plumbing problems we had were caused by roots. I don't know anybody who doesn't flush tampons. I only learned recently that many states don't have seat covers in the public bathrooms intentionally (I thought it was an oversight). Today I learned that people with modern plumbing don't flush tampons.

I didn’t know until the plumber AMA thread on DCUM several years back, and I’m in my 50s! I stopped flushing after that and switched to a Diva cup. Frankly, I was hoping to be done with all this by now. I’m just grateful I never had plumbing issues during my decades of ignorance about flushing tampons.

I have never flushed a tampon in 20+years of tampon use. I either wrap in (a small amount of) tp and throw away or, if trash is going out soon, just drop directly in trash (always into a plastic bag lined trash can). I don't understand why you would flush it. It says on the box not to and I was always told to only flush human waste and toilet paper. No wipes, no tampons, no paper towels, certainly no sanitary pads or diapers (!). Cannot believe this isn't common practice.

Count me as confused too. From day one that I used a tampon my mother made it very clear to never flush them.
