Southwest flies non-stop from DCA to St. Louis and Kansas is about a 45 minute drive. No exactly that difficult compared to many other schools.

93.5% Acceptance Rate

“Can I get into KU? The school has a 93% acceptance rate. Last year, 14,165 out of 15,155 applicants were admitted making University of Kansas an easy school to get into.”

I would hate to see the 6.5% that couldn’t get into Kansas.

Community Colleges have a lower Acceptance rate for goodness sake.

Once again the geographic ignorance of DCUM raises its ugly head.
Iowa = corn
Kansas. = wheat

Must have been there the same time- Glass Onion, Joe’s Donuts, Free State was still going strong the last time I was there...of course it was to take the family to lunch, not to drink in the bar. My DH was thrilled and wondered why his old college town wasn’t as beautiful and fun as Lawrence.

Was there a Yellow Sub there too? Or just Glass Onion?

Before Glass Onion, there was Yellow Sub there. I agree with PP it is weird to see a hotel now. There was the divey bar called The Crossing next to Yellow Sub and my college boyfriend and his band played there a lot. And of course The Wheel, which is still there.

I would hope you would put more thought and effort into selecting a college. Not everyone selects schools based on red/blue states. Take it to the political forum if you want to discuss it.

That is a myth. I can appreciate why some people might think that, but look at 2016. In state elections, Kansas was the only Red state to move to the middle. I realize the middle is probably still too extreme for many people, but it is progress. Historically, Kansas has been a state that prides itself on public education and higher education.

Look closely at Kansas. What happened to our economy is indeed what will happen to America under Trump. But also look at the fight of average Kansans to reverse that trend and take back our legislature. Please don't give up on Red states, nor perpetuate the myth that there is nothing of value here, including KU. If anything, there are a whole lot of tenacious people and citizens who value education. And the college town of Lawrence is really nothing like the rest of the state, no matter how you look at it. KU and Lawrence stand out as a beacon of hope here.

If you are a KU grad reading this thread and you have not donated to the University since leaving, please consider doing so. It would help. I'm not even that much of a rah-rah Jayhawker, but the university is so important to the state and critical to breaking the cycle of extremism.

Lawrence is a lovely college town and the campus is beautiful- I got a great education at KU + some very happy years.

Many of my fellow Jayhawks went on to highly successful careers, graduate schools, etc.

Just be prepared for basketball fever- if it’s anything like my time there a few decades ago. I’m not even a sports fan and still watch college ball to this day.
