I got carded recently buying some wine. The check out person said they’re supposed to card if you look under 30. I’m 45, but she thought I looked 30ish. I took it as a compliment.
I was the only one in my table of 30 yr olds to be carded by a black waiter. Never heard of carding if you look under 30. They really are supposed to card everyone. Also i have tan skin and a minority. An asian girl doing my nails thought i was 21. My optometrist thought i was 15 or younger when i was 25. If it wasnt for a crappy facial i would still be mistaken for 15 at 35 i know for sure.

Compliments. I have heard this for years. I just say thank you. I'm almost 46, have no grey hair, no wrinkles, am slim and muscular, and wear a zero. I've had people argue with me to the point that I had to pull out my ID and prove it to them. (I wondered if they then went off thinking I had a fake ID 
)

I don't care if it's a lie. I'll take it. Someone was talking about 9-11 at work and I mentioned what I was doing at work that day and how I felt. Someone blurted out that they couldn't believe I was that old and didn't look it. I'm not offended.

I'm the 35 yo with the 9 yo above. It is flattering, but it also makes me feel awkward and teen-mom-ish, depending on who the comment comes from.
I agree with this. I have a 7 year old and am 36, and I often get a tinge of the “you had kids too young” when people say this kind of thing.

My friends husband is 25 years older than she is, and I was shocked just because again, I had presumed they were closer in age, not necessarily that he looks that young.
Not even uncommon in DC.

This makes no sense. Not everyone looks alike. Weight, sun exposure, drug use, alcohol, smoking, crap diet, not great teeth, sedentary lifestyles, stress, lack of sleep and so on all have on effect on looks. It stands to reason that with so many Americans not taking care of themselves in at least a few of these ways, the average 40 year old looks a certain way and people who take great care of themselves look younger.
You honestly can’t think of anyone who seems too be aging prematurely and some people who seem younger???? I don’t believe you.

People are often surprised when they find out the age of my child. It usually goes like this:
"Oh you have a son! So cute! How old is he?"
"He's 9."
"OH! What? Really? I thought he would be a baby! You don't look old enough to have a kid that old."
I'm 35. I think it's a combination of lots of parents around here being a bit older, and sometimes having "just" one child makes people think you are just getting started, when in reality I was one-and-done in my mid/late 20s, which is unusual I guess for DC.
In most other contexts I think I look mid 30s, or somewhere in the 29-40 range.
"Oh you have a son! So cute! How old is he?"

I always choose to take it as a compliment but also don't really believe they're necessarily telling the truth.

Compliment. I had a 30 year old guy at work say "OH MY GOD, I thought you were MY age!!!!". I'm only 40!!
