We're moving out to Burke soon. DH also wanted to look in MD, but commute to DC is a lot worse than from VA. VRE is pretty good, MARC has been unreliable according to coworkers who are late at least once a week due to the train. Metro ride tends to be longer from many of these "good" areas in MD. Don't even think about moving to MD and driving. 395 isn't bad compared to 270.

lots of routes to get into DC: Clara Barton Parkway, MacArthur, Massachusetts, River Road, and then to the east/downtown Bethesda there is obviously Wisconsin, Connecticut ave.


Those are great areas and you can find relatively less expensive places mixed in, but 700s can be tough. Even in the 800s you are looking at something pretty old and small.

MARC train station in Boyds or Germantown depending on where you are in Clarksburg is an option. If you choose to drive instead, you need to leave before 6:30 am.

My husband along with many others we know do this. Many telework a couple times a week. It's the sacrifice we made to live in a new house, good community, and great schools with this budget. Luckily my husband and I have enough seniority at work to be able to work from home or to switch our schedules around so that we are not driving during major rush hour. It's also close to Boyds marc station so if you work near Union Station that's a good option.

What are you talking about? The high school is in Rockville.

OP, another area to consider with that budget in MD is the area that feeds into Quince Orchard HS in Gaithersburg or the Rockville area that feeds into Thomas Wootton HS. Houses go quickly though.

We are in a similar boat OP except that my kids are 4 and 2. We are quite sure we want to go to catholic school for elementary (currently at private preschool) and then stay in the Deal- Wilson system. What they keep saying to us is that Desl is getting much better and Wilson is Yake or Jail meaning that you have better chance to be accepted to a top college coming from Wilson than a W school
