Ha, you guys suck. We have drinks--beer, wine, margaritas, depending on the venue--at lunch at least once a month, if not more so. Nobody does anything stupid. No one ever orders more than one. Nobody ever pressures others to order a drink if they don't want one. We're adults, and we know how to enjoy one adult beverage during lunch on a work day.

Canadian Embassy in DC is way heavy on the wines- I believe they have some kind of partnership with Australia to expand marketing as an export to the U.S.

One time half the luncheon party didn’t bother going back to work!

I went on (government) work travel to Russia once. At one site visit they served us champagne and caviar at about 10 am, at another site they fed us lunch complete with several rounds of vodka toasts and wine. My boss gave a toast and was reprimanded by the Russians because the toast he gave (second or third of the meal) was supposed to be to the ladies.

Lunch at the American embassy in Paris on another trip for the same job included wine as well—white with the appetizer and red for the main course.

As a federal employee, I would run the risk of ending up on the front page of Fox News or under OIG investigation if I drank any wine during lunch.
