I'm continually amazed by the things he's able to do.

He'd never carved a turkey before, and this thanksgiving we hosted, so it was up to him to carve it. He watched a 3-minutes video on YouTube, walked in the kitchen, and 10 minutes later brought out a perfectly carved and placed selection of the turkey, on a platter, with herb trimmings. Seriously, it looked like it got pulled from the page of gourmet magazine.

He's always able to stuff like that. Take something he's never done before, study it for a few minutes, and then execute it perfectly, the first time. He has no learning curve. Everything he attempts, is perfect. I used to get mad, but now I just accept it.

His downside is he's lazy, though. Really, really lazy.

He's incredibly smart though he was never a stellar student. He's an amazing problem solver and strategic thinker. We worked together for a number of years and I've never met anyone who can see the forest through the trees the way he does.

Hustlers are smart. I think OP lacks vocabulary to express what she means.

+1

These highly undesirable traits are very common, and do not come out for a long while after you know men like this. Also, men like this can be very image prone, even/especially if you would not expect them to be, so they are very different behind closed doors, than their "outside" persona (of charming, intellectual, funny, kind, whatever) - bank on him being the opposite when you know him. The nerdy past is real, and leaves enormous scars that can't be undone.

Book smart yes
Street smart no
Net/net not smart. Darwinism wins every time. That or his parents can keep bailing him out and fixing his messes.

He has ADD so has hyperfocus smart, which is only used for school tests and now office work.

Who the *f uses net/net in a convo like this? Idiot.

No excuse for dumb. Seriously.
My husband is an extremely intelligent man. Not extraordinarily savvy though.
And I kind of think that's the difference between smart men who cheat and smart men who don't. He is never one to "work an angel" on anything. Not in dating, not in career, not in life. This isn't always a great trait for every part of life, works out really well for me in the fidelity department. Plus, smart is sexy to me. Savvy can cross over into smarmy really fast.

Too smart, because he doesn't realize he's talking down to the rest of the world.
