Oh, I'm familiar with the Handbook. I was in college when it came out and it influenced my generation. I had multiple copies of the book, and still have one.
There are chapters devoted to dress (can you still even get the Bean Norwegian sweater?) which anyone can accomplish. And some minority groups have vacationed in approved places for years (Oak Bluffs for starters), attended the right schools and colleges and passed those traditions to their kids and grandkids.
And there are plenty of white preps who are not WASPs. Catholics for one.
