I'm the first poster above. I'm not sure I could find a clip that would suffice. It's too subtle. My impression is more the result of seeing several clips where something she said or did just struck me as not right but that could easily be seen as fine. I'm terrible at posting clips from my iPad, but you could search YouTube, if interested, for the following:

Kristen Bell interview where she talks about being surprised by a sloth for her birthday. The very end of the interview. (Bell is hilarious!)
Ellen and Michelle Obama at the drugstore.
Ellen with a bunch of little kids pretending to answer the phone.

Mean is probably too strong of a word. But I have a bad gut reaction too often when I see her. I don't ever watch her show, so I've stumbled upon these clips through other means. Very disappointing, because I always loved her good cheer and wholesomeness.


Omg, the clip with Ellen and Kristen Bell is hilarious. How was that mean spirited. Kristen was clearly there to make fun of her self for crying. And Ellen just made it more entertaining. Kristen was laughing.

+1. Ellen is about the classiest, most wholesome person on network TV today - and I'm on the conservative side. I respect her values of honesty, integrity, and equality, and I think exhibiting those values has changed so many opinions and assumptions about LGBT people.


NP here. I absolutely love Ellen! She has a heart of gold. Also, I love that she might be a little bitchy not-so-deep on the inside. I am, too! We're, like, kindred spirits.


Agree with all of the above PPs. I'm also moderately conservative, and I've always been a big fan of hers. I told my brother (who is gay) that she and I could easily be best friends. She can be a little snarky sometimes, but who isn't? She truly does seem to have a heart of gold and I love her interviews with children. Also love her dance moves.


I'm the first poster above and I forgot to say that I was sad when her Design show didn't take off. I really think that a big part of it was that as a reality competition show it was too "nice". The success of those reality competition shows really seems to come from people sniping and caustic reviews. But on Ellen's design show that didn't seem to happen despite some really horrible flubs of the contestants. And then Ellen would come on at the end and be all peppy, because that seems to be how she is, and there just wasn't enough drama for the show to succeed. Anyway, while that show didn't make it I respect that she maintained her value system of being supportive and kind even though it meant that her show didn't get extended.

My friend's girlfriend works for her in LA. Ellen's speechwriters barely earn enough to live on. That's disgusting.

I don't get it either because she is super butch and most people who watch the show are SAHM.

It kind of reminds me of Rosie O. People LOVED her when she had her daytime show and then when she went on the View she became very mean and people can't remember that they ever liked her.

There was a thread about her in the past few months that vanished. I assume it got taken down but didn't read it all so don't know what the content was. I looked at the first page or so and it was starting to turn nasty so someone must have really crossed a line.

Portia doesn't have Ellen's level of money, but she is hardly hurting for cash. Years on Ally McBeal, Arrested Development, Scandal, etc. I've seen a couple clips of them on the show (e.g., Ellen filmed Portia at home doing a Jane Fonda workout), and they seem really into each other. Not sure either is a good enough actress to pull that off.
