Las Vegas surprised me. We had a great time. Went for a conference. Plenty of things to do for kids. Some of the big hotels were not that kid friendly with food but lots around to take kids to. We'll go back again. I had no interest in going but figured why not?

Anywhere in Asia. I went to Thailand and loved it but decided Asia was too far away to want to go back to.

Australia because it’s also far away and a friend described it as not that different from the USA

India has never appealed to me. Maybe I just haven’t heard much about it besides the inequality and poverty.

Mexico, although I love Central America. Not sure why. Not exotic enough?

Canada wasn’t but then I went to Vancouver on a work trip and it was lovely.

Alaska has never been on my list.

Fermented shark is the worst thing I’ve eaten, followed it with Black Death. Helped a little. We did this during a walking tour of Reykjavik which the whole family really enjoyed. Even the kids tried the fermented shark.

I was the first Iceland poster. Everything I have read about Iceland is that it is pretty expensive, the food looks like it wouldn’t wow me (e.g., Anthony Bourdain said on an NPR interview recently that fermented shark was the worst thing he has ever eaten), and i think I could get anything I wanted out of an Iceland trip by going to Norway instead (where I do want to travel).

It does put a spell on you! I went when I was 12 for the first time. I was convinced at the time that I would hate it (I wanted to go to the beach instead). Ever since that first trip as a child, I have Paris in my heart!

Another vote for Vegas. Why see fake crap when you can see the real thing elsewhere (canals, Statue of Liberty, etc.). Plus unnatural cities in the middle of deserts have no appeal to me. Wouldn’t go to Dubai either.

My general travel rule is that the temperature has to be better than where I currently am. That rules out Antartica.

I went with friends. I think it would be possible, though limiting, with kids.

Why not Peru? I’m just curious. I went in November and loved it. We visited Lima, the rainforest and Macchu Pucchu. I found the scenery amazing, the food outstanding and the history fascinating. Lots of fun activities too.
