“They just asked us to watch over their house while on vacation.”

I really don’t know why. No falling out. We are very friendly with them and have many mutual friends. We bring a nice bottle of wine - invite them over for drinks. But who knows?

Anyway, my husband doesn’t want to go to another party we have been invited to so I want to make staying in, building a nice fire, popping some champagne and cozying up with a nice movie night with the kids make for a fun way to ring in the new year.

Otherwise, I am just going to start drinking. Maybe starting at noon.

That’s in three minutes.

I would start drinking now as well, but I only have one bottle of champagne and no food. Have to venture out and get more first.

^^And no, no way I would just go over or even ask. Perhaps they’re tired of hosting so many people and are doing a smaller group this year.

You should have invited them over.

What is with all these oversight comments? Can people really not track a guest list? It's not that hard.

It wasn't an oversight. You weren't invited...maybe you are socially awkward, maybe you lack manners, maybe they want a smaller party.

Because a lot of us live in the real world where people screw up all the time. Unless there was some sort of altercation between them this year, oversight is the most likely explanation for not getting an invite when they always got one before.

The most likely explanation is op is purposely not invited.

Op have you seen or talked to the neighbors recently?

Was there an Evite or Paperless Post? Check your accounts as the email may have gone to Spam.

Do not just show up.

Can you have a mutual friend ask the host “hey are the Brown’s coming tonight?” And report the answer?

Perhaps they are having a smaller party? Or inviting someone you don't enjoy and would rather not deal with the drama?

When did your friends mention the party (see you there!) and how did you respond?

Also, you are not owed an invite simply because you are neighbors.

Even if it’s an oversight, you can’t just show up. So you miss it this year. Big deal. Better to miss out than get a reputation for being boorish.
